Barn owl design and wing cycle I made back when I was helping out on Sidekick (season 1). Unfortunately the conversion of the animation over to Flash from ToonBoom (Harmony) wasn't entirely smooth so some of the held line work jitters a bit. Can't be helped :P

This is adorable! I really, really like this!
There is one thing about the timing that bugs me a bit, though. The downstroke should be longer than the upstroke, since it's pushing against the air. See here [link]

Hehe, thanks! Oh, and totally agreed on your crit. These are just the main poses. If I had fully animated it I definitely would have smoothed out the wrinkles. There are a couple of other things that bother me about it too ;)

At first sight, I just laughed at how ridiculous and disgruntled it looks. But then I got all serious and was like "Wow, that's really awesome flapping there." Sweet work as always!

I think this is totally awesome and I love the line-art and coloring. The wings have great animation. However, shouldn't the owl bob slightly as the wings move?

Yes. You're absolutely right. I didn't really have to add the wing cycle itself to the design in the first place, however, since that job would have fallen to the animator. As a designer, it's more my job to provide animation with the necessary views of a character (along with mouth charts, blinks and any design specific poses as required), but if I have time I do like to go out of my way to add something a little extra for animation to use. Plus, it's fun for me :P Anyway, thus is the reason you see just the base design and a wing cycle.
